Elaine Stewart

Written: February 6th by, Bob Short

Tuesday Julie and I found out a dear friend Elaine Stewart (Julie and Elaine have been friends since grade school) had a "hemorrhage" stroke and was in Seattle's Swedish Hospital. So we went to visit. Wednesday. She was paralyzed on her left side and can barely speak. On Wednesday morning Julie took Elaine's older brother up to see her (he is 10 years older and doesn't drive). She can move her toes now. and speak a little better, but it looks like a long recovery. They're still not sure why the hemorrhage, but they found she has high blood pressure and diabetes when they ran all the tests.

I talked to Julie tonight and Elaine talked in sentences today. They are still looking for the cause of the stroke.

Julie was up at Swedish again yesterday Monday 2/16/09 and Elaine seems to be going backwards, getting weaker and not able to swallow. The doctors will be putting a feeding tube into her stomach as she refuse the one going through the nose. The results of the brain biopsy didn't give them any answers, except that her vascular system seems to be deteriorating.
